I got my bird in 2015. It's a 2010 that I bought used and I do love the way she rides and handles. The one thing that has been killing me though is I do love going on long rides and I can't seem to ride more than about 1.5 hours before my ass is about to break The seat that I have on it is the stock touring seat from Triumph. It started it out that max ride before I started getting uncomfortable was about 45 minutes. I installed one of those do it your gel pads in the seat and it increased it to about 1.5 hrs which is only about 100 miles or so. I was trying to avoid it but I figure eventually I am going to have to bite the bullet and get an aftermarket seat. I was wondering what everyone else does for long hauls. Do most people get an aftermarket seat and if so which one and what other tips do people have for long hauls?

Unfortunately I modified the seat already with one of those gel pads from saddlemen and he says once the stock seat is modified he can't work with it. It looks like I will have to go with an aftermarket seat at this point. I am between a Corbin and a Mustang. Has anyone have any experience with either of these? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

I have heard a lot of good things about the Mustang seats, and they come in all colors, as long as it is black. I went for the Corbin, with adjustable backrest. It's a firm seat, but at the same time, very comfy. I had a soft seat before, and did get a numb butt after some 100 miles. With the Corbin I easily ride 2-300 miles. Some people have issues with Corbin, me having none. It just worked out. Fitment is not perfect, but acceptable. Had to relocate some of the support rubbers. Easily done.

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. That's a sweet custom paint job too. That is a sweet looking ride.

IF you can get hold of an LT/Commander stock seat, I did a write-up a while back on switching the pad & cover to your stock seat pan. It's very comfy!
I find the Longhaul seat pretty good for all day ride (with breaks)

The ride may be fun, but in the Great Scheme of things, it really is about the destination! John 3:16

Difficult to describe that burning sensation from the long haul seat, huh John. Like sitting on a hot plate all of a sudden; I've had to stop on the shoulder more than once because I couldn't stand it long enough to make the next exit. Only thing worse was the stock seat.

I bought a modified long haul from some kind soul on here. He had a pro remove seat cover and insert a thin (1/4"?) honeycomb layer that eliminates that burn. Still not perfect, and from all reviews I've read I might have to go with a Mustang eventually (especially if they are any lower than the long haul).

Have you tried an Airhawk? I've used one for probably six years now and it's been a good cheap fix. I sat on a Bird with the Mustang seats at the local dealer, it had aftermarket boards as well, I was surprised how far forward it made me sit, felt like I was riding a dirt bike up on the tank, hated it but so glad I didn't buy one.

+1. I reupholstered the stock seat and added an Airhawk R for extra measure. Very comfy...did a 330 mile ride last week.

My bike is the SE model which comes standard with Triumphs' Long Haul Seat which I also installed Triumph's optional, adjustable rider's back rest, which ,combined, isn't too bad at all. However, after a few hundred miles,it does start to have an effect on your derriar. So what I did,was buy a Butt Buffer [100 bucks] similar to the AirHawk, but has a Valour cover with a gel pad sewn into the cover, and just rests on top of the seat, again, similar to the Air Hawk.By using the Butt Buffer, your back side doesn't sweat, hence you're not so uncomfortable when runnin those long days, especially in the hot weather. And it's also comfy in the cold weather cause it helps to keep your back side warm.Just a thought if anyone's interested. Dave!!!
